A family get-away to Mendocino

Taken through the window of our cabin: our favorite rope swing. Also our favorite view... it seems to keep us coming back. I love that marsh so much.

Annabelle's interest in drawing has peaked again, no meal can be had without being interrupted by her inspiration to draw. Here she finds a sailboat shaped pasta, "Swallow!" she calls out, after the sailboat named in her favorite series of books, Swallows and Amazons.

Our first morning we woke to the sun streaming through our windows! We got up and headed down to the beach for a warm morning on the sand. Of course none of us were prepared for it and aside from the bathing suits we packed for the hot tub, we only had long pants and long sleeves...

Rock hunting makes me very happy.

Headed to the stream of water with her seaweed treasure.

Probably my favorite reading spot of all time.

Tails up! The chickens were beautiful and inspiring...

I think I feel some chicken art making on its way.

Dave's favorite reading spot.

Of course it wouldn't be a week away without a new game to stage.

My other favorite reading spot, especially with a napping child. Annabelle spent the week playing with new friends in neighboring cabins and recuperating from her ear infection.

The path to a local beach.

Annabelle has begun to sometimes carry a pencil and sketchpad with her. "I'm going to sit down and draw the beach!" Awesome. This made me very happy. But after I snapped this picture she got up and moved behind me so that I would not take her picture any more.

Take note of the rock formation stretching into the water...

Of course my camera works this way too. I loved watching her work.

Check it out.

Her drawing caught my interest, so I went to get a closer look. This picture does no justice to how huge and foreboding those huge boulders really are in reality. I was scared just enough to feel challenged to climb them.

Annabelle began to come after so I knew it was time to turn around.

Some day I will have my very own hot tub. And then I will be in it every day. Some day, some day.

Cute girl, hiding those two (very loose!) front teeth. This recent round of teething was really something for her. A five day fever followed by a ruptured ear drum. And still those teeth won't fall! A true rite of passage for Annabelle.

Sharing the photographer role.

The first day I napped by the marsh for an hour and woke up inspired. There were many dried reeds, what could be made with them?

I soaked a few in warm water.

Then I wove them into lengths of primitive rope. Perfect for our coming block on shelters and geography.
Weaving a grass mat is also a perfect project for my class. The children have already been weaving with wool, to try their hand with a plant fiber will be a perfect contrast to that work.

Taking her dolly Jackson for a walk in her new pram to see the bunnies. It was a perfect week for all of us.
